{"id":9480,"date":"2020-06-18T10:12:28","date_gmt":"2020-06-18T15:12:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/civita.com.mx\/?p=9480"},"modified":"2020-10-28T10:41:08","modified_gmt":"2020-10-28T16:41:08","slug":"reduccion-de-nuestra-huella-de-carbono","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/civita.com.mx\/en\/reduccion-de-nuestra-huella-de-carbono\/","title":{"rendered":"CARBON FOOTPRINT REDUCTION"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>C\u00cdVITA<\/strong> is committed to sustainability and is aware that there is a global need for immediate action against climate change, thus, <strong>we calculate our 2018 and 2019\u2019 carbon footprint<\/strong> using the Greenhouse Gas Protocol\u2019 methodology \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/ghgprotocol.org\/corporate-standard\"><em>A Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard<\/em><\/a>\u201d(WRI\/WBCSD).<a href=\"#_edn1\" name=\"_ednref1\">[i]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Carbon footprint is defined as the sum of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions that are generated directly or indirectly by individuals, organizations, products, geographic regions (regional or national entities), industry sectors, or institutions.<\/p>\n<p>Emissions are measured in units of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO<sub>2<\/sub>e), and the Greenhouse gases regulated by the Kyoto Protocol are carbon dioxide (CO<sub>2<\/sub>), methane (CH<sub>4<\/sub>), nitrous oxide (N<sub>2<\/sub>O), hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), perfluorocarbons (PFCs), nitrogen trifluoride (NF<sub>3<\/sub>) and sulfur hexafluoride (SF<sub>6<\/sub>).<a href=\"#_edn1\" name=\"_ednref1\">[ii]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>From the GHGs regulated by the Kyoto protocol, we consider emissions sources of CO<sub>2<\/sub>, CH<sub>4<\/sub> and N<sub>2<\/sub>O emissions. For the calculation, we chose the operational control approach and quantify the following emissions relevant to the company&#8217;s operations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3>Scope 1<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>C\u00cdVITA has no direct Scope 1 emissions, which are related to combustion in stationary sources, as boilers, furnaces, turbines, or caused by company owned mobile sources, physical or chemical processing, or fugitive emissions.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3>Scope 2<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Purchased electricity:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Energy consumed from the electricity grid, from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3>Scope 3<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Employee business travel<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>We quantify the emissions generated in the flights taken by our staff and the trips using transportation services with driver (Uber and Cabify).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Employees commuting to and from work:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We analyze the distances travelled and the means of transportation used by our staff, to commuting to and from work.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Waste disposal:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We consider the waste per categories generated by our staff, during our offices\u2019 operation schedule.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>We are proud to share that in 2019 we achieved a 20% reduction regarding to our 2018 emissions<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong>We mitigated 4.40 t CO<sub>2<\/sub>e<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Considering that we emitted 21.84 t CO2e in 2018 and 17.45 t CO2e in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/\">U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)<\/a>, <strong>the reduction is equivalent to the carbon captured by 2.28 hectares of forest<\/strong> in one year.<a href=\"#_edn1\" name=\"_ednref1\">[iii]<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-9502 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/civita.com.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/bosques0-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"634\" height=\"420\" srcset=\"https:\/\/civita.com.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/bosques0-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/civita.com.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/bosques0.jpg 753w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 634px) 100vw, 634px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The reduction of our carbon footprint was only possible due the implementation of the following environmental strategies in our offices and operations:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Optimal planning of business trips (less trips required):<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We carry out efficient trips. We planned the activities of different projects in Mexico City that required the assistance of Guadalajara\u2019s employees, so that in fewer trips made, more site visits and meetings were carried out. In the same way, we took advantage of the transportation services with drivers.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-9497 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/civita.com.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/oficina-3-300x196.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"606\" height=\"396\" srcset=\"https:\/\/civita.com.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/oficina-3-300x196.jpg 300w, https:\/\/civita.com.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/oficina-3.jpg 604w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 606px) 100vw, 606px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Project planning<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Integral management of the waste generated (increased recycling and composting).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In 2019 we designated a storage area for recycling of paper, cardboard, plastic, glass, metal, batteries, lamps, and electronic waste, which are taken to a collection center every week.<\/p>\n<p>Besides, a waste audit was made, in which we identified that organic waste represented a large percentage of the total waste generated, so we decided to make compost and use it on our terrace.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-9487\" src=\"https:\/\/civita.com.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/composta-1-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"composta\" width=\"641\" height=\"426\" srcset=\"https:\/\/civita.com.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/composta-1-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/civita.com.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/composta-1.jpg 742w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 641px) 100vw, 641px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Organic waste used for composting<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Energy efficiency and installation of solar panels in our Guadalajara office (less energy from the grid).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We increase energy efficiency in our offices by considering natural ventilation and lighting. Also, we decided to purchase energy-efficient computers and monitors with the EPA&#8217;s ENERGY STAR\u00ae label.<\/p>\n<p>Besides, in June 2019, a photovoltaic power generation system was installed in our Guadalajara office. The system consists of 8 photovoltaic modules, with a total capacity of 2.64 kW.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-9488\" src=\"https:\/\/civita.com.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/paneles-1-300x204.jpg\" alt=\"paneles solares\" width=\"598\" height=\"405\" srcset=\"https:\/\/civita.com.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/paneles-1-300x204.jpg 300w, https:\/\/civita.com.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/paneles-1-768x521.jpg 768w, https:\/\/civita.com.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/paneles-1.jpg 896w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 598px) 100vw, 598px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Solar panels installed<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Less use of automobile to go to the offices (Priority to walk, use bicycle, public transportation, or carpool)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We take advantage of our office\u2019s location, which facilitates access to alternative transportation.
